Natural Wonder, The Rensing Story is a curated selection of works by seventeen artists at the Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities in Greenville opening Monday, November 10th. These artists have participated in the Artist in Residency program currently being offered at the Rensing Center, a non-profit educational organization in Pickens, SC whose mission connects art, science, and economy. The show is a chronicle of the experiences of each of these diverse artists as they are impacted by this isolated rural farm and forest.
Evelyn Rensing Kochansky, the inspiration for the center and matriarch of the Kochansky family, is a 1941 graduate of Pratt Institute and will have work on display. Ellen Kochansky, director of the Rensing Center has been a professional artist for 40 years, with work in the Museum of Arts + Design in New York, The Mint Museum in Charlotte. She has recently focused on collective and community projects. Ellen’s son Shelby Davis, and his wife Crystal Schenk will also be included in the show. Davis and Schenk have recently completed “This All Happened More or Less”, a public art installation in Portland, Oregon, and have been exhibited nationally and internationally.
Shelby Davis was born and raised on the land now being offered to artists, poets and scientists. The place has deeply influenced his work and practice, and the residency program makes this experience available to others. The work in the show demonstrates the transformational power of the environment and the culture.
The Rensing Center is an educational non-profit organization whose mission is to nourish creative capability. It fosters individual renewal, community connection and interdisciplinary action among people in artistic, environmental and entrepreneurial fields. Artists who have participated demonstrate the commitment of the founders to international, inter-generational and inter-disciplinary cross-pollination.

The Lipscomb Gallery is part of the SC Governor’s School for the Arts and Humanities (SCGSAH), and is located at 15 University Street, Greenville, SC 29601.
